MANILA, Philippines - Global FC failed to stop Geylang International skipper Josef Kaplan from scoring a late goal and yielded a 0-1 defeat in the first leg of the Singapore Cup quarterfinals Thursday night at Jalan Besar Stadium in Singapore.
Kaplan netted a well-placed strike past Global keeper Roland Sadia at the 87th minute as the Singaporean side took the headstart in their two-leg series.
Global will try to rebound on Sunday at Bedok Stadium and salvage a semifinal berth.
“We can still play better. We really have to improve in the second leg,” said coach Leigh Manson. “But I believe the team is capable of coming back. We know how Geylang plays and we will make the necessary adjustments.”
