MANILA, Philippines – Richard Gasquet couldn't ride on his momentum further.
The Frenchman fell in the Citi Open in Washington, D.C. after a gritty 7-6(4), 6(5)-7 and 4-6 stand against American Jack Sock in the Men's Singles action recently.
It was a showcase between the Philippine Maverick Gasquet and the young Sock. The former is seeded fourth in the tournament while the latter is 15th.
Gasquet bows out of the Citi Open after a triumphant campaign against hefty lefty Gilles Muller last Thursday.
Sock, who is only 22 years old, is a holder of two Doubles Grand Slam finals championships. He won at the US Open in 2011 and at Wimbledon in 2014.
Gasquet, on the other hand, is ranked 13th in the ATP World Tour. He is seven years older than his tormentor.
The match lasted two hours and 33 minutes with Gasquet outmaneuvered in each department. He was only able to best Sock in first services won -- but only by a thread, 82 percent to go against 81 percent.
Gasquet is expected to be in the country in December for the International Premier Tennis League, along with Serena Williams and compatriot Jo-Wilfried Tsonga to name some.
