Norzagaray whips Canada in Jr League World Series

Olmin Leyba - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Asia Pacific champ Norzagaray, Bulacan broke into the win column in the Junior League Softball World Series as it nipped erstwhile unbeaten Canada, 5-1, Tuesday at Everest Park in Kirkland, Washington (yesterday morning in Manila).

The Bulacan softbelles exploded with five runs in the fourth inning to pave the way for their first victory in three games in Pool A. Bulacan previously lost to Southeast in five innings (3-18) and host District Washington, 6-12.

Canada, represented by Beacon Hill, suffered its first setback after hurdling its first two assignments.

Alma Tauli took the win for the AsPac side as she struck out seven batters, allowed no earned runs on five hits in a seven-inning stint.

Madaelene Domaug anchored the offense and delivered an RBI and a run on 2-for-4 batting.

Bulacan pounced on an error by pitcher Kaia Gyorfi to draw first blood in the bottom fourth, following it up with a sacrifice by Alysa Jean Alindogan and run-scoring hits by Ana Veronica Santiago, Domaug, and Jojielyn Lim.

Bulacan battles USA Central-Clay County, Kentucky (1-2) next.
