Eagles seek 4th straight vs Chiefs

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Reigning UAAP champion Ateneo seeks a fourth victory in a row as it faces off with winless Arellano University today in the Spikers’ Turf Season 1-Collegiate Conference at The Arena in San Juan.

Already assured of a quarterfinal spot after racking up three wins in a row, the Eagles will be eyeing win No. 4 in their 5 p.m. encounter with the Chiefs, who are still winless in three starts.

Ateneo coach Oliver Almandro said they’re hoping to win as many games as they can entering the quarters.

“The win-loss record in the group stage will be carried over into the quarters so every win counts,” said Almandro, who steered the Loyola-based spikers to last season’s UAAP crown by unseating former titlist National University.

NU likewise hopes to remain unscathed as it squares off with an unpredictable Far Eastern U at 3 p.m.

The Dante Alinsunurin-mentored Bulldogs shoot for a fourth straight win against the Tams, who are on the brink of elimination with a 1-2 (win-loss) mark, at 3 p.m.

Fighting for dear life were La Salle-Dasma and University of the Philippines, which tackle each other at 1 p.m.

The Patriots are eyeing no less than a sweep of their last two games after losing their first three assignments to advance.

La Salle-Dasma’s last foe is Arellano on Monday while UP’s final match is versus La Salle next week.
