Ilas, Chabon triumph again

Bernice Olivarez-Ilas and Sofia Chabon display their trophies after topping their respective divisions in the 2015 Ping 2 Day Series@River Ridge Championship.

Bernice Olivarez-Ilas and Sofia Chabon sustained their fine form and came away with another pair of victories, this time winning the 2015 Ping 2 Day Series@River Ridge Championship at the River Ridge Golf Club in Oxnard, California Wednesday.

Fresh from their romps in the West Lake Summer Championship at the Westlake Golf Club, also in California, the ICTSI-The Country Club bets scored victories in contrasting fashions with Olivarez-Ilas coming through with clutch putts in the closing holes of the tough layout to edge American Page Harrison by one despite a 78.

Olivarez-Ilas, who also beat Harrison by six to cop the West Lake crown, opened with a 75 to pool a 36-hole aggregate of 153 and rule the 12-13 section for the second straight week. Harrison limped with a 79 for a 154 while Daisy Wan, also of the US, finished third at 162 after a 79.

Chabon, who nipped teammate Abby Arevalo by one last week, fired an opening 70 then added a 73 to assemble a 143 and record a three-shot win over American Carol Cheng, who turned in a 74 and a 146, in the 14-18 division.

Arevalo struggled with an opening 76 and skied to a 76 on the final day to end up third at 149.

“They actually need to work on their short games and putting to score low. But the course is long and tough for the girls so we’ll take the win,” said ICTSI-TCC coach Bong Lopez.
