MANILA, Philippines - Bernice Olivarez-Ilas and Sofia Chabon fashioned out a pair of one-under 66s to rule their respective divisions in the West Lake Summer Championship at the Westlake Golf Club in California recently.
Olivarez-Ilas knocked down three birdies against two bogeys to string nines of 34-32 as the top ICTSI-The Country Club bet posted a runaway five-stroke triumph over American Page Harrison in the 12-13 division of the 18-hole tournament. Another US bet, Daisy Wan, placed third with a 73.
Harrison struggled with a 37 at the front and ran out of holes to settle with a 34 while Wan stayed within striking
distance of Olivarez-Ilas with a 36 but fumbled with a 37 in the last nine holes.
Chabon also came through with a 66, including a clutch par-putt on the closing hole to thwart Abby Arevalo, who shot a 67, while Sam Martirez carded a 69 to complete a 1-2-3 finish for the ICTSI-TCC squad.
Olivarez-Ilas and Chabon’s victories came on the heels of Arevalo’s six-shot win over Chinese Yu Cen Han in the FCG World Championship in Temecula last week.
But Chabon foiled Arevalo’s bid for a second straight championship with a steady stint at the backside of the par-67 layout.
