Kobe Paras helps Compton Magic break spell in Adidas summer league
MANILA, Philippines — Kobe Paras scored eight points as he helped the Compton Magic Elite beat Team 907, 78-70, on Friday (Saturday Manila time) to advance to the second round in the 17-and-Under silver bracket of the adidas Uprising Summer Championships in Las Vegas.
Compton Magic used a balance attack to score their first win in the tournament that moved them into the second round against Cali Rebels Elite on Saturday (Sunday Manila time).
The UCLA-commit Paras added one assist, two steals and two shot blocks in a team-high 18 minutes of play for the star-studded Compton Magic.
Fellow UCLA-commit big man Christopher Ike Anigbogu and shooting guard Johnny McWilliams led the team with 10 apiece while Jules Bernard had nine points.
Paras' high school teammate Lucas Siewert of Brazil contributed seven points and four boards in 14 minutes.
Compton Magic lost all their three games in heartbreaking fashion in the pool play as they missed the chance to play in the gold bracket.
Paras only averaged 7.3 points as he struggled from the field with just 32 percent clip. He tried to make up for his shooting woes in the other department as he also normed 3.3 rebounds, two assists and 1.3 steals but still to no avail.
The 6-foot-5 Filipino prospect had 11 points and two assists in their opening loss to Florida Sons, 73-76, last Wednesday (Thursday Manila time). He had five and six points, respectively, in back-to-back losses on Thursday (Friday Manila time) against the New England Playaz (68-74) and Texas Elite Basketball (69-73).
