MANILA, Philippines - Enzo Hernandez rolled his way to two silvers and two bronzes as Team Philippines finished fifth overall in the 18th Asian Youth Tenpin Bowling Championships that ended Tuesday in Macau, China.
Hernandez settled for third place in the final event of the meet – the boys’ masters – after losing to lower-ranked Billy Muhammad Islam of Indonesia in the first stepladder finals, 215-256.
Islam later suffered a 183-203 defeat at the hands of Muhd Rafiq Ismail of Malaysia, who outshone everyone else with his four-gold collection.
The 18-year-old Hernandez earlier took runner-up honors in the boys’ All-Events, scoring 4165 behind Ismail’s winning 4443, and was No. 2 in the boys’ singles, where he came through with a perfect 300 in the third game en route to 1480 overall against the 1615 of the streaking Malaysian.
Hernandez also teamed up with Ivan Malig in landing a podium finish in the boys’ doubles. Hernandez (1349) and Malig (1341) tallied 2690 to place third behind Malaysian champs Ismail and Qalif Adnor Adam (2841) and silver medalists Javier Tan and Muhamad Jaris Goh of Singapore (2763).
