MANILA, Philippines -- Portland Trail Blazers star point guard Damian Lillard is rooting for Floyd Mayweather to win against Filipino boxing champion Manny Pacquiao.
While he respects Pacquiao, Lillard said that he is a fan of his compatriot's work ethic.
"I am a boxing fan. I respect Pacquiao as a boxer but I’m a Mayweather fan," said Lillard during a conference call with international media that included Philstar.com.
"I’m not just a fan of him being undefeated. He is probably the best p4p (pound for pound) ever but I’m a fan of his work ethic. He looks flashy but I really respect his work ethic," added the rising NBA star.
Curiously, his Western Conference rival Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors has shown admiration for Pacquiao by sending him an autographed jersey.
Pacquiao and Mayweather are scheduled to trade punches in what is going to be the richest fight in boxing history on May 2 (May 3 Manila time) at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
With the Trail Blazers headed to the playoffs, there is little chance for Lillard to watch the fight live.
The 24-year-old guard hopes he won't get a lot of heat for siding with Mayweather when he visits Manila soon.
