Colgate Fresh Hoops: Fresh take on Philippine streetball

MANILA, Philippines --The popularity of basketball in the Philippines is reflected in the Filipinos’ passionate love affair with the sport. In fact, one could scout around in different barangays and he would most likely find a basketball court—whether it’s a covered court or a makeshift one.
On the streets, Filipinos normally play basketball with no formal rules (“No harm, No Foul”) and players showcase their individuality by bringing in fresh moves and tricks. This kind of style resonates well with the Filipinos who are known to play rough but passionately at the same time.
Taking cue from the Filipinos’ unique playing style, Colgate Fresh Confidence, with its thrust of providing mind blowing fresh experiences to the youth, is inviting Filipinos from different barangays to show off their streetball skills through Colgate Fresh Hoops.
Young enthusiasts of streetball, both male and female, are encouraged to participate in the streetball clinics nationwide to educate them about the fundamentals of streetball. This is open to beginners and even players with a more advanced streetball background so they can further hone their skills. The clinics are going to be conducted by professional streetball players.
The highlight of Colgate Fresh Hoops is a three-on-three tournament to be held in six barangays nationwide. Unlike other 3-on-3 tournaments where you enter the competition as a team, Colgate Fresh Hoops version asks players to register and showcase their skills individually. A player’s team winning a game won’t be enough to advance through the tournament. One must possess the streetball skills that are a cut above the rest to progress. Essentially, players that move on in the tournament would be the best streetballers in the bunch.
After the six tournaments, the organizers would then choose the top 12 players who were able to showcase the best streetball skills from all over the country. These players will then be split into two teams to compete in a once-in-a-lifetime championship game as they get to play with two basketball superstars – Jimmy Alapag and L.A. Tenorio. On top of that, the champion team will also win a six-month streetball scholarship with Hype--the Philippines’ leading streetball organization--and cash prize worth Php 180,000.00
