Malacañang, Judiciary seal UNTV title duel

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Malacañang proved steadier down the stretch to hack out a 91-88 victory over defending champion Armed Forces of the Philippines and clinch the other finals berth in the third UNTV Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena over the weekend.

Andro Requez scored four points in the last 90 seconds, including two pressure-packed charities, as Malacañang repulsed AFP’s fightback in Game 2 of their semifinal series.

The win thus sent the Patriots to the finals against the Judiciary Magis, who eased out the Senate Defenders, 95-75, in their own semis duel two weeks ago.

Game One of the best-of-three title series is set April 12, also at the Ynares gym.

Both the Patriots and Magis secured twice-to-beat bonuses against their rivals for finishing 1-2 at the end of the second round elims.

The champion team in the annual tournament initiated by UNTV CEO and chairman Daniel Razon will receive P2 million which it will donate to its chosen charity institution. The losing finalist will also donate its P1 million prize to its chosen beneficiary.
