MANILA, Philippines – After another failed title bid, Barangay Ginebra is again effecting a coaching change, promoting Frankie Lim from assistant coach to head coach in lieu of Ato Agustin.
A reliable source said the management formally announces the change as the Gin Kings return to practice on Monday.
The same source said player trades are possible, depending on the proposal of Lim, a champion coach with the San Beda Red Lions in the NCAA.
Before the latest coaching shuffle, players being mentioned to be on the trading block include LA Tenorio and Chris Ellis.
Trade rumors at Ginebra swirl on the continued slump of the Gin Kings despite a formidable lineup bannered by Mark Caguioa, Greg Slaughter, Japeth Aguilar, Mac Baracael, Joseph Yeo, Jayjay Helterbrand, Tenorio and Ellis.
They have gone under so many coaches without success, not winning a single title since their last title run under coach Jong Uichico in 2007.
They failed to make it past the quarterfinals in the last Governors Cup and Philippine Cup under Jeff Cariaso. Same in the current Commissioner’s Cup under returning head coach Ato Agustin.
