MANILA, Philippines - Shaira Hope Rivera and Vince Tugade posted two victories each to lead in the winners in the first leg of the Globe 17th Head Graphene XT Junior Tennis Satellite Circuit at the Ecoland 1 and 2 Tennis Clubs in Davao City recently.
Rivera beat Nicole Bautista, 6-3, 6-1, to earn the girls’ 18-under singles crown then trounced Patricia Velez, 6-3, 6-1, to pocket the 16-U title while Tugade clipped Stephene Tubbs, 6-4, 6-0, for the boys’ 16-U plum before whipping JD Velez, 6-1, 6-2, for the 14-U diadem.
Elwin Centillas repulsed Jafarry Cariga, 7-6, 6-7, 6-2, to cop the boys’ 18-U crown, while Danna Maeil Abad swept Jessica Mae Carcueva, 6-0, 6-0, to clinch the girls’ 14-U title.
In other results, Coleen Carvajal ruled the girls’ 12-U division with a 6-2, 6-2 romp; Ropert Tortal beat Andre Kenny Sing, 7-6, 6-0, for the boys’ 12-U title; Andre Kenny Sing smothered Juliana Carvajal, 6-1,6-2, for the 10-unisex title in the event supported by Globe Telecom and Head Philippines, organized by Dynamics Sports and sanctioned by the Philippine Tennis Association.
Topping the doubles division are Rivera and Velez (girls’ 18-U); Lord Renz Pacheco and Justin Jomari Guira (boys’ 18-U); Jessica Mae Carcueva and Kiara Gandeza (girls’ 14-U) and Edgar Quinones and Abdul Hanan Cariga (boys’ 14-U).
Other backers of the event are Chris Sports, Head ATP Tennis Balls, Graphene XT, Toalson, Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) and Philippine Tennis Association (PHILTA).
