History by the numbers: Ateneo Lady Eagles

When Ateneo copped its first women’s volleyball crown last UAAP Season 76, they did so on March 15, 2014. This second straight title conquest just concluded Season 77 – it was on March 14, 2015.

In Season 74, Ateneo took one set from La Salle in their first round meeting; two in the second round; and three in the first match of the finals. But the Lady Spikers took the next two games.

In Season 75, Ateneo lost in five sets in the first round then in the second round, was swept in three sets. In the finals meeting, Ateneo lost a five-setter in Game One after which they were swept in Game Two.

In Season 76, La Salle swept Ateneo in their two elimination round meetings. Once they got in the Finals, the Lady Eagles registered a historic feat when they overhauled the Lady Spikers’ thrice-to-beat advantage to claim its first ever crown.

In Season 77, La Salle took two sets in a five-set loss to Ateneo in the first round. One set in the second round. In the finals, they didn’t win a single set.

You can say from Season 74 to 77, the Lady Eagles began their mastery of the Lady Spikers.

The Lady Eagles became the first team in UAAP Women’s Volleyball to sweep a season and go 16-0. They also won 16 straight sets. Their team is composed of 14 players plus 2 coaches for a total of 16 people.
