Frisbee invit’l to unfold in Corregidor

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - It will be more fun in Corregidor as the historic island hosts The Ultimate Rock Classic, the First Corregidor Island Ultimate (Frisbee) Invitational Tournament on April 18-19.

A joint undertaking of the Philippine Flying Disc Association (PFDA) and Sun Cruises Inc. (SCI), the sport aims to gather eight teams with 15 players each, to participate in the tourney which promotes Corregidor as the venue of choice for Frisbee enthusiasts.

Participants to the two-day tournament includes round-trip ferry transfers, meals, Saturday dinner buffet, party, accommodation, drinking water, and guided island tour for the first four teams.

The event also aims to instill historical awareness among participants on the vital role of the island fortress during World War 2. Also known as “The Rock”, it is located at the mouth of Manila Bay which was the last bastion of defense of the Allied Forces against Japan. It was surrendered in 1942, retaken by the Americans in 1945, and was among the most-densely bombed places by the end of the war.

Sun Cruises Inc., the integrated leisure provider in Corregidor, can also organize customized Frisbee boot camps for companies and groups beyond the tournament. Currently, SCI is offering special bicycle, do-it-yourself, team-building, bird-watching, photo safaris, and adventure-oriented tours to enhance the island as a tourist destination.
