Pacquiao downplays Mayweather’s KO of sparmate

MANILA, Philippines – Floyd Mayweather Jr. knocking out opponents in sparring does not impress Manny Pacquiao at all.

In fact, an “aggressive” Mayweather is all Pacquiao wants when they tangle on May 2 in what’s potentially the richest fight in boxing history.

According to a report by Aquiles Zonio of Philboxing.com, Pacquiao just shrugged off recent reports that Mayweather knocked out one of his sparmates during a session.

“I hope the reports were true. He [Mayweather] should be aggressive during our fight so we can make the fans happy. We all knew how he fights,” Pacquiao said.

The Filipino icon also took the opportunity to blast Mayweather’s style, which he called “boring.”

“In fact, his previous fights lulled me to sleep,” Pacquiao continued.

The Las Vegas-based Mayweather isn’t known as a heavy puncher and relies more on his boxing skills and defense. In 47 fights, the unbeaten American has stopped only 26 opponents.

That doesn’t scare Pacquiao.

“I hope, this time he would be man enough to take some risks. He should prove to the world that he’s a real and fearless fighter, not a runner,” he added.

Pacquiao is currently in Los Angeles, training at Freddie Roach’s Wild Card Gym. In about two months, he will try what 47 other fighters before him failed to do – deal Mayweather his first setback.

He promised fireworks at the moment of truth at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

“This fight should live up to its billing. We owe this to the fans. They should get the kind of entertainment they want,” Pacquiao said. – Dino Maragay
