MANILA, Philippines – With his super fight against Manny Pacquiao still more than eight weeks away, Floyd Mayweather Jr. is already putting in some serious work.
A report from a boxing website said the undefeated Mayweather has been impressive at sparring.
Mayweather is so determined at keeping his unbeaten record on May 2 that he reportedly floored one of his sparring partners during one session.
"Floyd doing his thing," said Chris Robinson of HustleBoss.com. "He dropped one of the guys with a body shot."
The Las Vegas-based fighter isn’t known as a heavy puncher, and the last time he won via a knockout was four years ago when he decked an unsuspecting Victor Ortiz in the fourth round of their match.
Mayweather relies more on his solid all-around boxing skills and defense than his punching power to cruise to decision victories.
Pacquiao, for his part, hasn’t scored a knockout since 2009 against Miguel Cotto. But the Filipino icon flashed his deadly form in Macau last November when he knocked down an overmatched Chris Algieri a total of six times en route to a lopsided win.
The fighting congressman is a slight underdog against Mayweather, but early bettors in Las Vegas have started putting their money on him.
