Tyson: Mayweather to face ‘perpetually’ moving Pacquiao

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – Former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson says Floyd Mayweather Jr. faces a tough task against Manny Pacquiao on May 2.

In an interview with ESPN, Tyson, feared for his punching power during his glory days, pointed out that Mayweather hasn’t faced someone who throws a lot of punches like Pacquiao.

This guy's [Pacquiao] like in perpetual motion he's all over the god-damn place. I don't know I don't know,” he said.

Pacquiao will try what 47 other boxers before him tried and failed – deal Mayweather the first loss of his career in a fight that’s expected to go down as the richest ever in boxing history.

Tyson, for his part, said the undefeated American has to stay busy and keep Pacquiao off bay as soon as the opening bell starts

“Listen, Floyd's got to fight the first couple of rounds. He has to fight. He's not gonna spoil, he's gonna lose the round [if he's] laid back he's gonna lose the round,” he added.

This, Tyson said, is where Pacquiao’s advantage comes in, since Mayweather isn’t known as a volume puncher.

“So when you think about the two fighters and the people that gave Pacquiao the most difficult time of his career, only the people who do over a hundred punches a round – [Timothy] Bradley, [Juan Manuel] Marquez. Floyd didn’t go nowhere near a hundred punches a round,” the retired fighter continued.
