PBA board wants Salud to stay as commish
PUERTO PRINCESA – The PBA board of governors would try to convince commissioner Chito Salud to stay onto his post while appointing a deputy commissioner that will help run the league and make the job of the commissioner less taxing.
This is one of the top proposals the PBA board discusses in a meeting this afternoon at the Aziza Hotel here in the sideline of the 26th PBA All-Star festivities.
The main agenda is to reorganize the league, professionalizing its head office with the commissioner working as chief executive officer and the deputy commissioner as the chief operating officer.
Then there would be department heads reporting to the commissioner.
The commissioner’s job would be less tiring since the deputy commissioner would be the one tasked to follow the games.
“The governors have been advised of this proposed new structure of the league. The governors have sounded off to the team owners the proposal, and the board meets again to fine-tune and possibly finalize the reorganization,” said The STAR source.
Board chairman Patrick Gregorio of Talk n Text, Purefoods’ Rene Pardo and Rain or Shine’s Mamerto Mondragon composed the special committee that studied the tweaking of the PBA structure.
Also attending the meeting are Rod Claudio of NLEX, Ryan Gregorio of Meralco, Alfrancis Chua of Barangay Ginebra, Gie Abanilla of San Miguel Beer, Erick Arejola of Globalport, Dickie Bachmann of Alaska Milk, Manny Alvarez of Barako Bull, Ginia Domingo of Kia and Dioceldo Sy of Blackwater.
