Focus on CCP, NU in national cheerleading
MANILA, Philippines - National University hopes to build on its NCR victory and upset defending champion Central Colleges of the Philippines in the 2015 National Cheerleading Championships set Feb. 28 and March 1 at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The reigning back-to-back champions scored an impressive 298.5 to beat the field of 10 schools in the National Cheerleading Championship NCR Qualifiers recently. The defending National champions Bobcats finished second with 296 points while University of Perpetual Help System Dalta garnered 289.5 points for third.
“We are satisfied with our performance,” said NU head coach Ghicka Bernabe. “However, there’s still room for improvement so we will be working doubly hard to eliminate mistakes in time for the Nationals in March.”
The Bulldogs topped the Bobcats in 4 out of 5 categories. Eight-time NCAA champs Perpetual Help would’ve emerged on top of the NCR heap were it not for their 13-point deduction that cost them.
“We are happy with our showing,” said CCP head coach Arnold Villanueva. “We will definitely be ready for the Nationals. As far as we’re concerned, we’re going for a repeat.”
“The teams have all improved dramatically,”said head NCR judge JR David. “It’s a challenge for the judges to keep up with the teams as they get better and better.”
