Aussie firm introduces live stats technology

MANILA, Philippines - Australian-based firm SportingPulse is eyeing to form a partnership with the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) in the hope of furnishing proficient live stats especially in tournaments within the grassroots level.

SportingPulse International executive director Umberto Righetti and Euroleague Asia president Sergio Torrents are currently here to meet with SBP officials about their plan of providing running stats in meets sanctioned and supported by the country’s basketball federation the way they’ve done with the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA).

The two appeared in  yesterday’s Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Forum at Shakey’s Malate along with Ma Ming, the younger brother of former Chinese basketball star Ma Jian and now general secretary of the Beijing Basketball Association, with which SportingPulse has likewise established ties.

“We do (lives stats in) the tough leagues and small ones,” said Righetti in the session presented by San Miguel Corp., Accel, Shakey’s, and the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp.

“(Through live stats) people can see the game how it is happening,” he added. “We do it in the grassroots and other big leagues for people to help understand the game, and help coaches and players to improve.”

SportingPulse does the live stats of Fiba-sanctioned tournaments, currently works a total of 25 sports in Australia and New Zealand, while providing the same in grassroots basketball in 80 countries around the world.

The firm has likewise accessed the large basketball market in China, and is eyeing to do the same here in the Philippines.
