CEU, UST triumph in Dickies tiff

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Defending champion Centro Escolar University-Café France bounced back from a shock loss to University of the East last week by outlasting Ateneo-San Miguel Corp., 66-61, even as University of Santo Tomas finally barged into the win column of the Smart-PCABL fourth Dickies Cup at the Philippine Buddhacare gym in Quezon City over the weekend.

Mary Ann Dologue led the Lady Stallions with 19 points to emerge as the Dickies Player of the Game for the second time in four games. Janine Pontejos added 15 markers as CEU-CaféFrance hiked its record to 3-1.

The Lady Eagles played with only eight players but kept the game close before losing steam at endgame.

Jhenn Angeles scored eight of her 10 points in the payoff period as UST pulled off a 50-38 win over Far Eastern University-Multi Motors for its first win in four starts in the tournament sponsored CW Home Depot, Powerhouse, K-Tech Sports, Inc., Dickies Underwear and Jumbo Plastic Linoleum.

Maica Cortez led the Tigresses with 13 points, including four points early in the fourth that helped the team scuttle FEU’s comeback.

In the other game, Adamson forged a four-way tie for second by downing upset-conscious University of the East, 64-57.

Nathalia Prado led Adamson’s well-balanced attack by tallying 15 points, including five in a telling third quarter breakaway. Jamie Alcoy and Joy Cochico chipped 14 and 12 markers as Adamson tied Ateneo, FEU and UE.
