Report: Mayweather, Pacquiao sign deal; fight to be announced in 2 days
MANILA, Philippines – Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao have reportedly signed a deal to fight each other, a boxing website reported Friday.
Veteran boxing scribe Mark Malinowski of ringobserver.com, citing an unnamed source, also said the fight will officially be announced either Thursday or Friday (Friday or Saturday Manila time).
“Just received an Instant Message from an insider: The ‘Pacquiao vs. Mayweather Superfight’ was signed today by both combatants,” Malinowski wrote.
He, however, said there’s still room for doubt.
“I believe it, I believe the source, and I believe we have a fight. Still, knowing Floyd's reluctance and ducking ability and agility, one must reserve slight doubt. Very slight,” Malinowski added.
In the same report, Malinowski's source said a rematch between the two superstars is scheduled in November this year.
If true, the development ends weeks – even years – of waiting on the part of boxing fans. Pacquiao has long agreed to Mayweather’s demands, including a 60-40 purse split in favor if the undefeated American, but no deal has been sealed so far.
Mayweather himself will make the announcement if the fight – planned for May 2 – is a go.
