Salud plans to step down after PBA season

MANILA, Philippines -- PBA Commissioner Chito Salud is set to step down from his post at the end of the season.

Salud, who took over from Sonny Barrios in 2010, is set to announce his impending resignation in a press conference during the PBA double-header Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum according to STAR reporter Nelson Beltran.

Under Salud's leadership, the PBA flourished as the top sports entertainment in the country breaking records at the gates and TV ratings in partnership with TV5.

It was also under his watch that the league helped the country regain prominence in Asian and World basketball through Gilas Pilipinas' silver medal run in the FIBA Asia and first win in the World Cup in 40 years.
