SSC opens NCAA beach volley title bid with win over Mapua
SUBIC BAY – San Sebastian's Gretchel Soltones and Camille Uy downed Mapua's Camille de la Pena at Debbie Dultra, 21-11, 21-9, Wednesday to jumpstart their title-retention bid in the women's division of the 90th NCAA beach volley tournament at the Boardwalk here.
"Medyo nahirapan po kami kasi first time lang namin na naging mag-partner at saka wala talaga kaming training sa sand court," said Soltones, the reigning MVP here.
Soltones, a 19-year-old Business Management student who hails from Cebu, said they prepared for a month just for their tournament in an indoor court at San Sebastian.
Despite it, Soltones were able to play tough and with new partner Uy, got the win that set in motion their campaign.
In men's action, College of St. Benilde's Marjun Alingssa at Johnvic de Guzman also won their game to likewise get its title-retention bid rolling.
