MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Football Federation (PFF) yesterday said that the champion of the United Foootball League (UFL) will qualify to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Cup group stages when the UFL season resumes this Saturday at the Rizal football turf.
Local football fans have been awaiting for the start of the eliminations to see how their favorite clubs will kick off their campaigns after the three-month layoff following the FA League Cup with the event regarded as the toughest and most grueling tournament in the UFL season.
Although Global is the first Filipino club to participate in the AFC Cup group stages, the Leigh Manson-coached side has had to endure some heartbreaks in their last two competitions. It fell short against Loyola Meralco Sparks in the final of the PFF National Club Championship and bowed to Ceres-La Salle in the FA League Cup championship last November.
Ceres-La Salle and Manila Jeepney face off at 2:15 p.m., Kaya sees clashes with Philippine Army at 5:15 p.m. while Global begins its league campaign against Green Archers at 8:15 p.m.
A total of 10 clubs makes up the First Division of the League.
