Kobe Paras, Phantoms fall to Lovett-led Knights

Alder Almo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines -- Kobe Paras came away with the best highlight reel of the game but it was not enough to beat Marcus Lovett, Jr. and his Morgan Park High School as La Cathedral's five-game win streak was snapped in a 59-68 loss on Saturday (Sunday Manila time) in the Greatest Showcase on Earth exhibition game at their homecourt.

Paras finished with nine points including a monster slam from the baseline but the 6-foot guard Lovett, Jr. torched the Phantoms with 33 points to lead the visiting Mustangs to the come-from-behind win. Lovett, ranked seventh in Illinois, used his quickness to toy around LA Cathedral's defenders.

The loss snapped LA Cathedral's five-game win streak.

Not to be outdone, Lovett, Jr. also had his own collection of highlight reels in the game including a tough drive to the basket against Paras.

Paras and the Phantoms will resume league play when they take on Bishop Montgomery Knights on the road on Wednesday (Thursday Manila time). The Phantoms will be looking to avenge the heartbreaking 76-80 loss they suffered at the hands of the Knights last Jan. 16.
