Two Phl teams compete in WC of touch football

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Two Philippine teams are bound to the Touch Football World Cup to be held in Australia this April.

Representing the country in its first ever World Cup campaign set April 28 to May 3 are the women’s open and mixed open teams, respectively, which are collectively known as the Pythons.

A total of 84 teams are seeing action in the meet to be held at Coffs, Harbour, New South Wales.

Women’s coach Craig Wislang said in the weekly Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Forum at Shakey’s Malate, the Pythons are seeking a modest goal of just finishing either as the No. 1 or 2 teams in Asia.

“We are looking at measuring ourselves against the other Asian teams. If we ended the tournament first or second from Asia, then we will have been very successful,” said Wislang in the session presented by Shakey’s, Accel, and the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation.

Also appearing in the public sports program are Federation of Touch Football Pilipinas (FTFP) Clair Barberis, and players Mai Peregrina, Roge Dublin, Nerice dela Cruz, and Joan Javier.
