MANILA, Philippines - Cameroonian Nguene Landry struck as Stallion FC of Iloilo held fancied Global FC to a 1-1 draw in a battle of the Group B leaders in the PFF Smart National Club Championship Sunday night at Rizal Memorial Stadium.
Landry found an opening during a counter-attack to fire the equalizer in the 73rd minute as the Stallion booters gave the reigning UFL champs a tougher challenge than expected.
Global had come off a 10-0 mangling of M’Lang FC of North Cotabato two days before and it had once beaten Stallion in a UFL match, 9-2.
But Stallion, the regional qualifiers who opened their campaign with a 5-1 disposal of Erco-Bro of Cebu, proved they are no pushovers as they dished out an impressive performance that put them level with Global with four points.
Satoshi Otomo gave Global the upperhand with his 59th minute strike off a feed by Mark Hartmann but Stallion wouldn’t just roll over and cancelled it out via Landry’s effort.
Stallion and Global continue their dispute for the top spot in Group B today against M’Lang and Erco, respectively.
M’Lang and Erco battled to a 2-2 tie Sunday night to share third in the group with one point apiece.
Stephane Meleke scored a late goal to salvage a standoff for Erco in the see-saw match between the two provincial squads.
