Filipino bowlers miss another podium finish

Olmin Leyba - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The medals remained elusive for Team Philippines as the pair of Liza Clutario and Mades Arles settled for sixth place in the women’s doubles of the 23rd Asian Tenpin Bowling Championships Tuesday at Blu-O Rhythm & Bowl in Bangkok, Thailand.

Representing Phl team 3, Clutario (1217) and Arles (1274) made a good run and rolled 2491 pins to finish second in Squad B behind the 2583 of Korea 3’s Jeon Eun Hee and Son Yun Hee but overall, it was not enough to catapult them into the medal podium.

Malaysia team 2’s Syaidatul Afifah and Sin Li Jane, the Squad A leaders, scooped the gold as their 2773 proved unbeatable after play in the 38-team field divided over two groups was completed.

Korea 2’s Jung Da Wun and Lee Young Seung snagged the silver with 2633 while Jeon and Son wound up third.

The Philippines’ second team of Krizziah Tabora (1200) and Lara Posadas (1153) finished 12th overall with their tally of 2353 pins while the first pair of Sheena Go (1094) and Anna Marie Kiac (1164) wound up 21st with 2280.

After the singles and doubles events, Clutario stood at 20th in the All-Events standing with 2464 through six games. Tabora ranked 24th with 2454 while Posadas was at 29th with 2389. The top 16 will advance to the Masters finals.

Phl bowlers focus on the trios competitions next, with Kevin Oliver Cu, Jeremy Posadas and Enrico Hernandez making up Phl 1 and Giancarlo Mansilungan, Jeffrey Carabeo and Benshir Layoso comprising Phl 2.
