MANILA, Philippines - Judiciary buried 17 triples and dumped Government Service Insurance System, 110-57, even as Senate and Department of Justice formalized their entry into the second round of the third UNTV Cup at the Makati Coliseum over the weekend.
With former PBA player Ariel Capus at the helm, the Judiciary Magis used a strong start to wrest control then pulled away in the third en route to sweeping the six-team Group B elims.
The Senate Defenders, meanwhile, got 22 points and 11 rebounds from Emmanuel Baltazar as they trounced the Metro Manila Development Authority Black Wolves, 91-80, in the other Group B action.
The DOJ Boosters, on the other hand, warded off the spirited challenge of the Bureau of Fire Protection Firefighters, 75-69, in a Group A encounter.
Flashing vintage form, Capus, a former PBL (Philippine Basketball League) star, fired 32 points, including 5-of-7 from the three-point zone and finished with an 11-of-17 shooting.
John Hall and Don Camaso provided Capus the much-needed support by scoring 11 and 11 markers, respectively, in the tournament presented by UNTV led by multi-awarded broadcaster Daniel Razon.
