MANILA, Philippines - Team Philippines put up its best performance but still fell short in the wake of Korea’s clean sweep of the medals in the men’s doubles event of the 23rd Asian Tenpin Bowling Championships Monday at Blu-O Rhythm & Bowl in Bangkok, Thailand.
Phl’s team 2 of Kevin Oliver Cu and Enrico Hernandez rolled a combined 2583 that was only good for 11th spot in the event ruled in record fashion by Korea team 3’s Choi Bok Eum and Park Jong Woo.
Choi and Park, multiple gold medalists in the Incheon Asian Games, set a new three-game series record of 1437 on the way to a winning 2834, another fresh continental mark, to lead a 1-2-3 romp for the Koreans.
Korea 2’s Hong Hae Sol and Kim Jung Yung took the silver with 2739 while Korea 1’s Shin Seung Hyeon and Kang Hee Won grabbed the bronze with 2718.
The efforts of Cu (1281) and Hernandez (1302) was the best to date in the tourney for the Pinoy bowlers, who languished in the 20s in the earlier men’s and women’s singles hostilities.
Phl team 1’s Jeremy Posadas (1266) and Jeffrey Carabeo (1215) tallied 2481 for 20th place, while Giancarlo Mansilungan (1166) and Benshir Layoso (1293) submitted 2459 for 25th.
Their female counterparts were slated to vie in the women’s doubles last night with Sheena Go and Anna Marie Curiac (Phl 1) rolling in Squad A, and Lisa Clutario and Mades Arles (Phl 3) and Krizziah Tabora and Lara Posadas (Phl 2) vying in Squad B.
