Mayor Del tourney unwraps at Valley
MANILA, Philippines - The city government of Marikina will stage the fifth Mayor Del de Guzman golf tournament today at the Valley Golf Club to raise funds for its anti-flooding projects.
Registration starts at 10 a.m. at the south course of Valley Golf with De Guzman to hit the ceremonial drive at 12 noon. Fees are pegged at P1,500 for senior golfers and members of Valley Golf and P2,500 for non-members.
The Rotary Club of Marikina is one of the chief backers of the event supported by the Philippine Veterans Bank and FF Cruz and Co., Inc.
De Guzman said proceeds of the tournament will go to the Marikina Watershed Reforestation Project for the rehabilitation of the Marikina Watershed, the first defense against erosion of rainwater and silts from the Sierra Madre that causes flooding in the city and its nearby localities.
The mayor said the amount that will be generated would fund the reforestation of the watershed through purchase and planting of forest trees and robusta, a variety of coffee.
“We are grateful to the organizers of such a noble event that not just help in preserving our natural resources but also stop a perennial problem which poses danger to lives and properties of our people,” said De Guzman.
