Volleyball stakeholders vow to rejuvenate PVF

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Volleyball Federation (PVF) leaders and stakeholders declared unity and cooperation during a recent meeting and set things in motion for activities that will rejuvenate the organization.

In a statement, PVF chairman Edgardo “Boy” Cantada said they met during the Christmas break and agreed to iron out the problems within the organization.

“We in the Philippine Volleyball Federation are looking at a robust 2015 as well as the years beyond,” said Cantada in a statement.

In the meeting, the group reaffirmed Karl Chan as president and Cantada as chairman. It was also decided that the PVF board will convene on Jan. 10 at the Cantada Sports Center to finalize the details for the General Assembly that they plan to hold on Feb. 21.

“The tenure of the present board is only up to the time a general assembly will be conducted to elect a new set of officers. We are all excited to start fresh, and together we intend to push for a stronger PVF in 2015,” said Cantada.

As a gesture of strong support to the sport, Cantada has offered the Cantada Sports Center to be the home of the national teams and site of grassroots activities and training sessions.

The center features three indoor volleyball courts (one fully air-conditioned and has a Robbins All Star Plus shock absorbing maple flooring) and an all-weather lighted beach volleyball court.

“The Cantada Sports Center will now serve as the National Volleyball Center and will be renamed as such. It will be run in coordination with the PVF Board and soon to be established management group that will handle training of volleyball teams (both local and foreign) and various coaching and officiating seminars,” said Cantada.

“And all these will be made available to the national teams for their continuous development as a strong contender in international campaigns,” he added.

According to Cantada, the center’s indoor volleyball courts will be outfitted with Taraflex covering. It also has comfortable hotel type and dormitory rooms which can accommodate at least 100 persons. There’s likewise a well-equipped, state-of-the-art weights room, an air-conditioned social hall and numerous function rooms plus a mini-theater, a standby generator, and well-maintained shower rooms and toilets.
