MANILA, Philippines - Johnny Elorde Management International, in cooperation with the Rotary Club of Manila 101, presents another edition of Boxing Kontra Droga as its Christmas Presentation tonight, starting at 6 p.m., at the grand ballroom of the Elorde Sports Center in Sucat, Parañaque.
In the event dubbed “Battle of the Little Giants”, world-rated Jonathan Taconing fights former WBO Asia Pacific minimumweight champion Mikwanto Raknafa of Indonesia in the main event featuring three more 10-rounders.
A win in this bout by Taconing will earn him the chance to participate in the elimination round set by the World Boxing Council (WBC) during the recently concluded convention in Las Vegas.
He may either face Ganigan Lopez or former world light flyweight champion Adrian Hernandez. The winner will then be the mandatory challenger to the Pedro Guevarra–Akira Yaegashi championship on Dec. 30 in Japan.
Taconing, who once fought for the WBC title and was robbed of the win in Thailand against Kompayak Porpramook two years ago, is all set to fight again for a world crown. However, he has to pass this tough battle against Raknafa who promised to spoil Taconing’s bid for the championship.
In the supporting mainer, Phl featherweight champion Vinvin Rufino will keep his hands busy when he faces rated Rex Olisa while Phl bantamweight champion Monico Laurente fights tough Richard Garcia.
Glenn Sumingit will also battle Albert Alcoy in another 10-round encounter.
Preliminaries will feature Roderick Flores vs Arjet Caballes (six rounds) while four-rounders will see Jetlee Formentera vs Junjun Rimasog Jr, Abraham Bullagay vs Manny Mamacquiao and Dan Bryan Ascano vs Lordly Pateno.
