Globalport says Cabagnot insisted on trade to SMB
MANILA, Philippines – A changing of the guards… again!
In February this year, Alex Cabagnot got traded from San Miguel Beer to Globalport for Sol Mercado. Today, the guards are being swapped again in a trade that made both of them return to their former teams.
From the start of the season, Cabagnot has always demanded the trade and this was confirmed by Globalport’s team manager, Bonnie Tan.
“Even before the season started, we’ve been looking for a trade for Alex Cabagnot who informed the management that he wanted the trade,” said Tan.
“The opportunity came now at this stage of the conference and we wanted to take advantage of the situation, which we feel is a good trade for the organization,” Tan added.
Cabagnot has been averaging 15.3 points, 7.4 rebounds and five assists in just 10 games of the Philippine Cup. Meanwhile, Mercado had some trouble cracking in the deep guard rotation of San Miguel Beer and just averages 6.2 points in just 21 minutes of game play.
Aside from Mercado, the Batang Pier will be receiving two picks from 2018 and 2019 to complete the trade.
Globalport will be facing Barangay Ginebra, which has a twice-to-beat advantage in the playoffs, this coming Friday, December 12, at the Ynares Complex in Antipolo.
