Anton wins VMFest challenge

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Inigo Anton, a racing prodigy at 10, scored another big victory recently in the VMFest Tarmac Challenge at Clark International Speedway.

The young Anton dominated the Group 2 night stage and likewise bagged third place during the day stage in Group 5 onboard a borrowed ADVAN Honda EG after his racecar encountered problems before the race.

He is fast following in the footsteps of his father, Castrol-Yokohama champion driver Carlos Anton who also went on to stamp his class in winning the  MFEST series, setting the day’s fastest times during both stages on board the Mark Young-WorksBell prepared Honda EF.

His JSD-Special Stage teammate Alfie Concepcion followed him closely in second place.

The Roxas  brothers, who also hail from Baguio City, got their share of the limelight as they split honors in the Group 1 class. Anton Roxas won during the day stage while his brother Josh prevailed in the night stage.

“My wins have been overshadowed by Inigo’s achievements on the track.  I never expected him to achieve so much at such a young age.  I won my first race at 18 but Inigo did it way younger than I was,” said Carlos Anton.

His mother Karen Navarrete-Anton was the first female champion in the Philippine search of the Marlboro Red Racing Series and eventually captured the first Filipino world champion of the said event beating six other racers from different countries in 2007.

The Antons are sponsored by Castrol, Yokohama, Mark Young Racing, Works Bell brakes, Cars Unlimited, Ethanworxs, View Park hotel, Autoshack and JSD-Special Stage, and Mohspeed.
