Lady Tams, Tigresses eye 2nd win

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Far Eastern University and University of Santo Tomas try to rebound from their previous setbacks as they take on winless rivals today at resumption of the UAAP Season 77 women’s volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.        ?

The Lady Tamaraws clash with the University of the East Lady Warriors at 2 p.m., while the Tigresses take on University of the Philippines Lady Maroons at 4 p.m., both looking for their second victories in three starts.

Arch rivals Ateneo and La Salle pace the field with three wins each with FEU and UST hoping to stay within striking distance of last year’s finalists.

After a cruise over UP, FEU struggled against Ateneo and absorbed a stinging 15-25, 16-25, 17-25 defeat last Saturday.        ?

UST, on the other hand, swept UE but succumbed to La Salle’s power, 23-25, 25-27, 17-25 last Sunday.       ?

But while FEU is expected to get past a rookie-laden UE side, UST is in for a tough outing against UP, which battled NU to a tight contest before yielding a 25-21, 18-25, 25-23, 12-25, 9-15 decision last Saturday.

Bernadette Pons, Remy Palma, Geneveve Casugod, setter Yna Papa and libero Tin Agno hope to step up for the Lady Tamaraws while rookie EJ Laure will lead the Tigresses’ attack along with Pam Lastimosa, Jessey de Leon, Carmela Tunay and playmaker Alex Cabanos.

The Lady Maroons, meanwhile, will bank on Angeli Araneta, Kathy Bersola, Nicole Tiamzon, Vina Vera Alinas and Chester Ong while UE hopes to draw big games from Shaya Adorador, Roselle Baliton, Leuseth Dawis and Chello Ramos.
