Perpetual bucks Benilde for No 53

MANILA, Philippines - Perpetual Help overcame a scrappy College of St. Benilde side to eke out a 12-25, 25-18, 25-23, 12-25, 17-15 victory yesterday and extend its run to 53 in the 90th NCAA men’s volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City.

Rey Taneo, Bonjomar Castel and Neil Barry Ytorzaita took turns in the deciding set to fend off an upset try by the Blazers and clinch the Altas’ 53rd straight win spanning five seasons.

It was also the Las Piñas-based school’s sixth straight victory this year to move  ahead of idle Emilio Aguinaldo College, its toughest  rival with an equally impressive 5-0 record.
