MANILA, Philippines - With not enough rest since the elimination rounds, leaders Petron and Generika clash with separate foes in a pair of sudden-death semifinals today the 2014 Philippine Superliga Grand Prix presented by Asics at the Cuneta Astrodome.

The Blaze Boosters throw their 8-2 (win-loss) record out of the window when they face Cignal at 2 p.m. while the Life Savers (7-3) tangle with RC Cola-Air Force at 4 p.m. in the women’s division semifinals of this inter-club tournament organized by Sports Core with Air 21, My Phone, Via Mare, Mikasa, Mueller Sports Medicine, Healthway Medical, Generika Drugstore, LGR and Jinling Sports as technical partners.

Meanwhile, PLDT Telpad-Air Force guns to retain its crown when it collides with Cignal in the championship battle of the men’s division at 6 p.m.

With the nucleus of the national team that saw action in the FIBV Men’s Club Championship at the helm, the Turbo Boosters went undefeated in the single round eliminations and winning another title will cement their legacy as the most successful club in the men’s side of this club tournament.

Tasked to lead the cudgels for PLDT Telpad-Air Force are the high-flying Ran Abdilla, Ron Jay Galang, JP Torres, Kheeno Franco and Jayson Ramos while the HD Spikers will be bannered by Jay Dela Cruz, Dexter Clamor and former San Beda ace Gilbert Ablan.

But still, the highlight will be on Petron and  Generika – two powerhouse squads billed to engage in the do-or-die finals showdown on Sunday after their very strong performances in the eliminations.

With former Miss Oregon Alaina Bergsma and Brazilian sensation Erica Adachi at the lead, the Blaze Spikers closed the preliminaries with a commanding 8-2 win-loss card while the Life Savers finished with a five-game winning run to conquer the second spot with a 7-3 mark.

Although the Blaze Spikers surrendered a 25-18, 12-25, 25-18, 11-15 decision to Generika at the close of the eliminations last Wednesday in Biñan, Laguna, it hardly mattered anymore as they have already secured the top spot in semifinals.
