Board set to reactivate PVF

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Volleyball Federation has put up an interim board to ensure the unhampered operation and implementation of its programs until after the General Assembly and the elections early next year.

“We just want to get the PVF back on its feet as a truly working sports association headed by legitimate members,” said Edgardo “Boy” Cantada, who was elected as the new chairman by the six-man board during a special board meeting at the Cantada Sports Center in Taguig City last Sunday.

Other attendees were Gener Dungo (president on-leave), Minerva Dulce Pante, Victor Abalos, Artagnan Yambao and Virginia de Jesus.

Yambao was elected vice president while Pante was voted as treasurer. Gerard Cantada was appointed acting secretary general.

“These are the duly elected directors of the PVF board and they are legitimate to serve in various key positions. But we want to make it clear, we will only serve until Feb. 21, 2015 when a new set of officers will be decided in a General Assembly,” said the elder Cantada.

The Philippine Olympic Committee and the Philippine Sports Commission will soon be notified of these developments.

The current PVF board will also work on some of the existing problems of the association that has practically ceased to effectively serve the athletes and all volleyball programs following the demise of former chairman Pedro Mendoza Jr.

“The last regular meeting of the duly elected board of directors was held May 30, 2013. That meeting even proved to be highly irregular after they found some questionable insertions like the appointment of Rustico Camangian as secretary general and the formation of a so-called interim board for the PVF,” said Cantada.
