HONG KONG – Freddie Roach went straight to the point when asked about the possibility of Manny Pacquiao finally facing Floyd Mayweather inside the ring.
“We’ll knock out Floyd,” said Roach.
Pacquiao hasn’t knocked anybody out in five years and came very close to one last Sunday when he knocked Chris Algieri down six times at the Cotai Arena in Macau.
Still, the knockout that Roach had promised didn’t come.
He said it will surely will when Pacquiao gets to face Mayweather next year.
If the fight happens.
“Manny did well against Chris and hopefully the Mayweather fight happens. And I look forward at getting him ready for that,” said Roach.
Roach thinks that Mayweather is not the Mayweather of about two or three years ago.
“You know Floyd about two years ago, I thought it’s about even. Now I think Manny will knock him out. Floyd can’t run like he used to, he can’t move, his legs are shot, he’s a washed up, old fighter,” said Roach.
“Floyd we’re coming for you. Let him know,” he said.
If Mayweather doesn’t come to the plate, Roach has other plans.
“If not, we’ll see someone, somebody,” he said.
A few days ago, Roach mentioned the name of Danny Garcia as a potential opponent.
“Garcia. That’s my personal opinion,” Roach told Pinoy scribes. He even mentioned the possibility of staging a Pacquiao fight in Davao City where a stadium that could seat over 50,000 fans is being built.
“So we have a new stadium in the Philippines so maybe we’ll go there,” he said.
