Cyna seeks redemption in Sherwood
MANILA, Philippines - Cyna Rodriguez sets out for a payback while Thai Amolkan Phalajivin seeks for a repeat as they slug it out for the lead and the momentum in the P750,000 ICTSI Sherwood Ladies Championship which gets going today (Tuesday, Nov. 25) at the Sherwood Hills Golf Club in Trece Martires, Cavite.
Rodriguez saw her three-game win run snap by Phalajivin at LPGT Splendido last September and the former struggled the following leg at Valley dominated by Symetra Tour campaigner Dottie Ardina, making her keen on redeeming herself in the season-ending tournament of the ICTSI Ladies Philippine Golf Tour.
With Ardina back in the US to resume her bid for an LPGA card, Rodriguez and Phalajivin are left to dispute the top P150,000 purse although the rest of the 37-player field will be out to foil their bid in the 54-hole tournament sponsored by International Container Terminal Services, Inc.
Jayvie Agojo, for one, is out to end a long spell right after she topped the second leg of the circuit organized by Pilipinas Golf Tournaments, Inc. at Riviera as she joins Rodriguez and the Thai ace in the featured flight at 7:40 a.m.
Chihiro Ikeda also hopes to come up with a strong start and fuel her drive for a breakthrough victory in the event backed by Nike, Pacsports, Custom Clubmakers and Sharp, as she heads the 7:30 a.m. group that includes Anya Tanpinco and Lucy Landicho while title hungry Lovelynn Guioguio, Sarah Ababa and Eva Minoza are grouped in the 7:50 a.m. flight.
But if there’s another player worth watching, it could be Princess Superal, who is expected to figure prominently in the title race given her confidence and a good run of form that netted her a string of victories this year, including the US Girls Juniors crown and Santi Cup.
