MACAU – Whatever Freddie Roach says just goes in and out of the ears of Chris Algieri.
No wonder the good-looking American boxer is not at all bothered or affected by the things thrown at him by Manny Pacquiao’s chief trainer.
Roach had said a lot of things about Algieri heading to the fight, and has found it quite amusing that Algieri believes in magic.
“When he goes to sleep he wears this bracelet with those little angels,” Roach said.
“I don’t believe in magic and voodoo,” he added Friday morning during a roundtable discussion with boxing writers.
Roach also said Algieri could get knocked out in the first round.
But Algieri will have none of it.
“Freddie’s done quite a bit of talking,” said Algieri.
“I don’t read them but hear it only from you guys. It doesn’t matter what he says is going to happen. What matters is what’s going to happen,” said Algieri.
“It just goes and out of my mind. I’ve always been good at handling things that don’t matter. I’m a very positive person,” he said.
In fact, the 30-year-old from Huntington in New York finds everything exciting.
“This is what a young fighter dreams about. It’s exciting. I’ve got a whole crew of people with cameras on my face and going to watch me what I love to do.”
Algieri just loves all the attention.
“And what’s better than that?” he asked.
