Swiss champs vie in B Bonanza National Open

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Peter Magnaye and Paul Vivas hope to bring their winning form into the Bingo Bonanza National Open badminton tournament as they banner the elite field in the P1.5 million event firing off Dec. 11 at the Rizal Memorial Badminton Center.

The duo is coming off a record win in the Swiss International Badminton Championships and is expected to re-display the form that netted them the men’s doubles crown over the top seed French pair in Switzerland last month.

The other members of the national pool and team have also signed up for the four-day tournament, including Philip Escueta and Ronel Estanislao, guaranteeing a wide open battle in all five titles to be disputed in the event which also stakes ranking points.

Registration is ongoing and will end Nov. 28. Fee is pegged at P800 with the list of players to be posted on Dec. 1 and the draw set on Dec. 5, according to the organizing EventKing Corp.

The schedule will be posted on Dec. 7 while the team managers, coaches and players meeting will be held Dec. 9, also at the Rizal Memorial badminton center. For details and online listup, visit www.bingob.com/nationalopentournament or email to EKC at [email protected].

Up for grabs in the event, sponsored by Bingo Bonanza and sanctioned by the Philippine Badminton Association headed by Vice President Jejomar Binay and sec-gen Rep. Albee Benitez, are the men’s and ladies singles, the men’s and ladies doubles and the mixed doubles titles.

Ranking points will also be staked in the championship which also offers P120,000 to the winners in the men’s, women’s and mixed doubles categories, and P100,000 in men’s and women’s singles, according to tournament director Nelson Asuncion.
