MANILA, Philippines - Two-time PBA MVP Willie Miller hit seven of his 21 points in the fourth quarter as Siargao Legends thwarted Cars Unlimited, 81-77, to stretch its win run to four in Group B of the fourth DELeague Invitational basketball tournament at the Marikina Sports Center, Marikina City.
Miller finished with a double-double with 10 rebounds and dished off seven assists to power the Siargao Legends, who also drew 12 points each from former PBA players Leo Najorda, Leo Avenido and Marlou Aquino.
Sanjo Arwin sizzled with 27 points and hauled down 11 rebounds for Cars Unlimited, which dropped to 1-4.
In the other game, Team Mercenary outlasted FEU-NRMF, 89-84, to notch its third win in five games, also in Group B of the league supported by Marikina Mayor Del De Guzman and sponsored by PCA Marivalley, St. Anthony Hospital, PS Bank Blue Wave Marquinton Branch, Luyong Restaurant Concepcion, Mckie’s Equipment Sales and Rental and Tutor 911.
The Mercenaries, handled by playing coach Nic Belasco, drew 22 points from Vaughn Canta with Belasco adding six rebounds.
Edwin Asoro fired 18 points, snared 11 rebounds and made six assists for the Tamaraws, who fell to joint third with their tormentor.
Meanwhile, action resumes today with Siargao Legends and defending champion Hobe-JVC taking Sealions and Uratex Foam, respectively.
