MANILA, Philippines - The Elite Eight stage of the 2014 National Collegiate Championship (NCC) shifts to Manila after completing five playing days at Cebu City Coliseum with San Beda and La Salle clashing in a duel of unbeaten teams at the Ynares Sports Center in Pasig City.
La Salle leads the way with a 2-0 record followed by San Beda (1-0) and University of San Carlos (3-1).
National University, the reigning UAAP champion, is tied with Arellano U with a 1-1 slate while University of Visayas has a 2-2 card.
FEU has a 0-1 mark but still in contention while Southwestern University, the CESAFI titlist, has been eliminated after dropping all its four outings.
Only the top two teams will advance in the best-of-three championship on Nov. 27 also at the Ynares Gym.
Game Two is set on Dec. 1 while a deciding Game Three, if necessary, is on Dec. 2.
Meanwhile, the USC Warriors, CESAFI runner-up, emerged as the top team among three Cebu squads that slugged it out with the top five teams from Manila. USC scored impressive wins over FEU, the UAAP runner-up, Southwestern University Cobras, CESAFI champion, and University of Visayas Green Lancers.
The Warriors only loss was to the San Beda Red Lions.
The UV Green Lancers, on the other hand, recorded big wins over the NU Bulldogs and Arellano Chiefs. UV, however, lost to La Salle and USC to finish with two wins and two losses. The SWU Cobras lost all of its four games against DLSU Green Archers, NU Bulldogs, Arellano U Chiefs and USC Warriors.
