MANILA, Philippines - The Milo Checkmate team turned in an impressive performance in its debut in the 2014 Hjorth Open chess tournament in Melbourne, Australia with Rembrandt Soler posting two victories and three draws in nine rounds.
Jerome Gabriel Arellano also finished with 3.5 points while Jan Franchezka Dansalan wound up with two points.
The trip was part of the ongoing year-round Milo Checkmate program organized by Metropolitan Chess Club to give deserving students the chance to gain international exposure at an early age.
Backing the MCC players’ stint were OSM Marine Services, Inc., AMOSUP, Professional Regulation Commission and PRB’s, QC Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte and Villa Verde Homeowner’s Association.
