Hot Ranillo takes crack at Japanese PXC belt

MANILA, Philippines - Glen Ranillo, on a three-match winning streak, including his stoppage of the United States’ Rene Remigio, finally gets a shot at the lightweight championship belt as he takes on Japanese Chuji Kato in one of two title fights headlining PXC 46 at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig Saturday.

“I’ll do my best not to waste this opportunity,” said Ranillo, confident of his chances against a tough Japanese also coming off three straight wins.

Kato pulled off a unanimous decision over Tyrone Jones at PXC 40 but has been idle since then.

Ernesto “Iron” Montilla Jr. and California-based Fil-Am Alvin Cacdac dispute the vacant flyweight crown in the other featured title bout in this latest Manila presentation of the Pacific X-Treme Combat.

“It’s a must-see fight card,” said TV5’s Vito Lazatin of the event presented by Sports5 with official partners Red Horse Beer, Healthway Medical, Remington Hotel, Resorts World, Bar 360 and Beer Below Zero and sponsors KIX, PLDT Telpad, PLDTmyDSL, Hayabusa, Premiere Condoms, Fitness First, FHM Magazine, FHM.com.ph; and media partners LoQal.ph, Spin.ph and PEP.ph.

Montilla and Cacdac engage in a match between tough fighters both coming off two wins.

At 5-foot-6, Cacdac is the taller and more experienced fighter, but Montilla should be able to compensate with his grit and determination.

Montilla is coming off a sensational win by submission via armbar against fan favorite and ex-champion Ale Cali in PXC 43 held last March.

PXC 46 presents other exciting matchups including the one pitting rising Filipina MMA star Gina Iniong versus Cortney Casey of the United States.

Team Lakay and former PXC bantamweight champion Crisanto “The Slugger” Pitpitunge clashes with Thai fighter Rambaa Somdet.

Tickets are available at SM Tickets and Ticket World. Doors open at 5 p.m. on fight day with the show starting at 7:30 p.m.
