CKSC rules Bacolod’s Tay Tung Invitational

MANILA, Philippines - Chiang Kai Shek College re-stamped its class over long-time rival Xavier School, 73-56, to capture the Tay Tung Invitational Basketball crown at Tay Tung Gym in Bacolod City recently.

With JV Gallego, Shannon Gagate and Fran Yu on the firing end, the Blue Dragons turned what was expected to be a tight match into a rout to cap their dominating performance in the tournament highlighting Tay Tung’s 80th founding anniversary.

The title romp was the second for the Goldwyn Monteverde-mentored Blue Dragons in a month after upsetting the Ateneo Eaglets in the Jumbo Plastic Linoleum Cup recently.

The victory also augured well  for its title bid in the PSSBC Ironcon Builders Cup which starts tomorrow at the CKSC gym in Tondo, Manila.

Aside from taking part in the annual tournament, CKSC officials, alumni and players visited the Sto. Niño Orphanage Homes where they distributed Hapee Toothpaste and Blackwater products as part of the school’s yearly outreach program.

Gallego bagged the MVP honors while Gagate led the Mythical Selection along with Xavier’s Tyler Tio, Miguel Corteza of Tay Tung HS, Ralph Penuela of Hua Siong College-Iloilo and Mark Claveria of Sun yat Sen-Iloilo.

CKSC alumni and players also visited Cebu early this year to play a series of friendly games aside from distributing goods to indigents.
